The Kindred are the non-human Blood who walk the Realms. Although they are Blood, because they not human, the human Blood often do not realize that there is Kindred among them unless they are trained or the Kindred reveals themselves. This is because there is a different feel to them that a person must be taught to recognize. Even if a Kindred wears a lighter Jewel then the human Blood, thus by the norm of things making it easier for the human Blood to sense them, they can remain hidden.
The following are Kindred that are currently accepted here on Maelstrom Into The Abyss. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the Kindred have a lifespan twice that of their landen brothers and will mature later, which can be up to a few months or a year. There are some species/breed names that have been taken from the real world and made specific to the Realms on here.

Fyreborn Dragons || Native to Fyreborn Islands. | Lifespan of 5000 years | The dragons are as roughly the size of a blue whale, not including their tails. The males are as large as 170–190. The females are about 130–150. | They enjoy snacking on pickleberries which are only found in their territory. | Their scale colors come in a wide variety of colors. Their eggs also reflect the color of their scales.
Typically once a female dragon has laid her clutch, her eggs must receive the light of thirteen full moons (to represent all the Jewels from White to Black) before they hatch. If the eggs do not receive any moonlight, they will go dormant until which time moonlight will revive them and hatch them (The dormant stage does not mean that the dragonlets in the egg are unaware and sleeping the entire time, they are aware of what is outside their egg and can communicate if they want to.)
Typically it takes about a century for a dragon to reach what they consider adulthood, although they do not reach their full size until they are about 300 years old and not sexually mature until somewhere between that and 500 years. What constitutes adulthood to dragons is having grown enough muscles in their wings to be able to fly on their own and their scales have hardened into an armor. This typically takes a century and until this point, the young dragonets are land-bound and thus vulnerable to other types or predatory creatures or anything that has something that can pierce their soft scales. Dragonets typically get their Birthrights when they are five years of age.
Mating & the Weakness
Dragons mate for life. A mated pair can produce many clutches which can contain from up 8 to 17 eggs. The amount of clutches depends on how long it takes to raise a brood. While a young dragon will reach adult size after a century, their parents may not produce another clutch until they can better the chances of the young of their last clutch to survive without their aid. Each egg is oval shaped and looks different and unique in coloring. Eggs are usually big enough to fill the two hands of a human cupped together.
When a dragon reaches the age of sexual maturity, a hormonal change will occur in their bodies that make them want to seek out a mate. The scales of a female dragon will appear brighter shade then their usual color which combined with the change in their scent will let males know she is a sexually mature and single female. The males in the surrounding area will all begin flocking to check her out.The ones who find her desirable will stick around, since there is usually more then a few males this often leads to fight. The fights are rarely fatal hover they do sometimes cause some serious damage such as to the wing membrane which is usually the most vulnerable part of a dragon.
The only time a dragon is vulnerable is after it molts and 'sheds it skin' which it does when it's is younger as it grows and when it reaches its full size to reveal a shiny new set of scales (dragons are a bit vain about this) and it takes a day after the shedding before they scales are hard as armor again. While some would think kindred dragons safe because of their Jewels, when they shed their skins, they are unable to wear their Jewels for the day, sort of like a moontime for the species. When dragons are full grown, they only shed their skins twice a year, once before the first snow fall and again at the beginning of summer.
The fighting of males will help narrow down the candidates for a female's affections to a smaller number. However in the end, it becomes the female's choice. Because females are faster then males, she makes her choice known when she allows a male to catch her in flight. This is a sign of her acceptance of him as her mate.
Dragons have a custom which to them and outsiders is a mystery whether it is instinct or knowledge passed down that causes it. It is rare that a dragon dies in its prime, although it happened during their times of weakness and males had a higher early-death rate (although relatively small really if you considered the numbers) because of the fights that occurred when a female became available.
Whether it's some sort of instinct or a whisper from the Darkness, a dragon knows when it's about to die. Before their final day of life, they will find an active volcano. On their last day of life, they will fly above the volcano from sunrise to sunset. During the day nearby dragons will gather around the rim of the volcano and watch the flight, making a keening noise each one distinct and blending perfectly in what it is known as Eternia, the song of eternal darkness which symbolizes the dragon's return to the Darkness.
As the sun finally seeks below the horizon, the dying dragon will plunge into the volcano. It is said that the dragon dies the moment before it hits the hot lava. At this moment the song of Eternia finally ends and the dragons all howl in mourning. What non-dragons find as interesting is that regardless of whether they are near their dying Brother or Sister, or in another part of the Territory or even a whole different Territory or Realm, all dragons will let out that great anguished howl to mourn one of theirs returning to the Darkness.
